KEY PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES
Before applying, artists should be aware of several important participation requirements.
The open call welcomes artists working across a broad range of disciplines, including painting, sculpture, photography, video art, installation, and performance-based practices. Both individual artists and artist collectives are eligible to apply.
Selected participants are expected to manage the installation and removal of their own artworks according to the festival schedule. Artists travelling from overseas should make appropriate arrangements for artwork collection and return logistics after the exhibition period.
Projects must be original and must not violate any copyright, trademark, or intellectual property rights.
The Biennale particularly encourages artists who can spend time in Nakanojo during the research and production stages, allowing for a stronger connection between the artwork, local environment, and community.
One notable advantage of the programme is that there is no exhibition fee and no residency fee for participating artists. In addition, selected participants will receive a production support grant from the organisers.
Artists participating in the Biennale for the first time will be required to attend an online orientation session. The organisers also conduct site visits and introductory programmes to help artists better understand the exhibition locations and local context.
Please note that all travel, accommodation, transportation, installation, maintenance, and artwork production expenses remain the responsibility of the participating artist unless otherwise specified by the organisers.
The Nakanojo Biennale values respectful collaboration with local communities and encourages proposals that respond thoughtfully to the unique cultural and natural landscape of the region.
PLEASE NOTE
•No exhibition fee
•No residency fee
•Production grant provided
